What This Does

AI Query Opportunity Discovery scans real questions users ask AI platforms (Google AI Overview, ChatGPT) and identifies gaps where:

  • The question has high search volume
  • Current AI answers are incomplete or weak
  • Your brand could fill the gap with better content

Why it matters: When AI doesn't have authoritative sources, creating comprehensive content gives you a chance to become the cited source for that query.

How to Access

  1. Go to AI Visibility in the sidebar
  2. Click Query Opportunities

Or go directly to: /ai-visibility/opportunities/

Understanding the Opportunity List

Each opportunity shows:

Query

The actual question users are asking AI platforms (e.g., "best sustainable swimwear brands 2025").

Opportunity Score (0-100)

How valuable this opportunity is:

  • 70+ (Green): High volume, few competing sources — excellent opportunity
  • 40-69 (Yellow): Moderate opportunity
  • <40 (Gray): Lower priority

Calculated from:

  • AI search volume (how often users ask this)
  • Number of currently cited sources (fewer = bigger opportunity)
  • Cross-platform gaps (if multiple AI platforms give weak answers)

AI Search Volume

Estimated monthly searches for this query across AI platforms.

Gap Description

What's missing from current AI answers. Example: "Current answers lack specific product recommendations for eco-conscious consumers."

Recommended Angle

Suggested content approach. Example: "Create comparison guide with sustainability metrics for top 10 brands."

Cross-Platform Gaps

Which AI platforms gave weak or no answers:

  • Google AI: No AI Overview exists yet
  • ChatGPT: Generic answer with no cited sources
  • Claude: Hedged response ("I don't have specific recommendations")
  • Gemini: Outdated or incomplete information

More platforms with gaps = bigger opportunity.

Filter Tabs

New

Opportunities you haven't acted on yet.

Brief Created

Opportunities where you've already created a content brief.

Dismissed

Opportunities you've marked as not relevant.

All

Every opportunity discovered.

Taking Action

Create a Brief from an Opportunity

  1. Find an opportunity you want to pursue
  2. Click Create Brief button
  3. A Custom Brief is created with:
  • The query as the topic
  • Gap description and recommended angle included in brief context
  • Brief analysis starts immediately

The custom brief workflow will derive an appropriate target keyword from the query.

Why custom brief? These are questions/topics, not exact-match keywords. Custom briefs handle broader topics better than keyword briefs.

Dismiss an Opportunity

If an opportunity isn't relevant:

  1. Click Dismiss button
  2. It moves to the "Dismissed" tab
  3. You can re-open it later from that tab

Automation Schedule

The AI query opportunity scan runs automatically every Tuesday at 7:00 AM UTC.

What the automated scan does:

  • Analyzes queries where AI platforms cite competitors but not you
  • Scores opportunities by search volume and relevance
  • Identifies cross-platform gaps (Google AI, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity)

After the scan completes:

  • New opportunities appear in the Discover feed
  • High-scoring opportunities (70+) are highlighted
  • You'll receive a notification if significant new opportunities are found

No action required: The scan runs automatically in the background. Just check your Query Opportunities dashboard after Tuesday mornings to see new discoveries.

When Opportunities Are Discovered

The weekly automated scan runs every Tuesday at 7:00 AM UTC.

The scan:

  1. Uses your brand keywords from Settings as seed keywords
  2. Finds real user queries related to those keywords
  3. Checks cross-platform gaps (Google AI, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity)
  4. Scores and filters opportunities
  5. Surfaces top 20 opportunities

If you have no brand keywords configured, the scan won't find opportunities. Go to Settings → General and add brand keywords first.

Running a Manual Scan

To discover opportunities immediately (without waiting for weekly scan):

  1. Go to Query Opportunities dashboard
  2. Click Discover Opportunities button
  3. Scan runs in background (takes 1-2 minutes)
  4. Page refreshes automatically when complete

Manual scans use the same logic as weekly scans.

Empty State: No Opportunities Found

If no opportunities appear:

Check if brand keywords are configured:

  1. Go to Settings → General
  2. Scroll to "Brand Keywords" section
  3. Add at least 3-5 keywords relevant to your business
  4. Save settings
  5. Return to Query Opportunities and click Discover Opportunities

Why brand keywords matter: The discovery system uses these as seed keywords to find related user queries.

Still no results? Your keywords may already have complete AI answers. Try:

  • Adding more specific/niche keywords
  • Using question-style keywords ("how to", "best", "vs")
  • Checking if opportunities were dismissed (see "Dismissed" tab)

Best Practices

Configure Brand Keywords First

The system can't discover opportunities without seed keywords. Add 5-10 relevant brand/product/category keywords in Settings.

Review Opportunities Weekly

New opportunities appear every Monday. Check for high-scoring queries (70+) to prioritize.

Create Briefs for Top Opportunities

Focus on opportunities with:

  • Score 70+ (high value)
  • Multiple cross-platform gaps (bigger reach)
  • Recommended angles that fit your content calendar

Dismiss Irrelevant Queries

Keep your list clean by dismissing queries that don't fit your brand. You can always un-dismiss later.

Track What Works

After publishing content from an opportunity:

  1. Monitor the brief's AI Visibility tracking (see main AI Visibility dashboard)
  2. Check if your content gets cited by AI platforms
  3. Use that data to refine which opportunities you pursue

Related Features

  • AI Visibility Dashboard (/ai-visibility/): Track when your content gets cited
  • Custom Briefs (/briefs/): Create content from opportunities
  • Brand Keywords (/settings/): Configure seed keywords for discovery

Troubleshooting

"No opportunities found" → Add brand keywords in Settings → General, then run manual scan

"Scan failed" → Temporary service issue. Try again in a few minutes.

"You've already created a brief for this query" → Check the "Brief Created" tab to see existing brief

Manual scan button is disabled → You've scanned within the last hour. Wait for rate limit to reset.

Opportunity score seems wrong → Scores are calculated from API data (volume + citation count). Low scores may indicate complete AI answers already exist.

FAQ

How is this different from keyword research? Traditional keyword research finds what people search for. This finds what people ask AI — which is increasingly where traffic goes.

Why do some queries have no cross-platform gaps? Those queries already have complete answers across all platforms. Lower-priority opportunities, but still worth considering if volume is high.

Can I add custom queries manually? Not directly. The system discovers queries from your brand keywords. To influence results, adjust your brand keywords in Settings.

How often do opportunities expire? Opportunities are marked expired after 14 days if not acted on. They remain visible but flagged as stale.

What happens after I create a brief? The brief goes through standard analysis (3-5 min), then you can generate content. The opportunity status changes to "Brief Created" automatically.
