Connect Social Media Accounts (LATE API)

How It Works

ILLIXIS uses LATE as the social media API layer. When you connect a platform:

1. ILLIXIS creates a LATE profile for your account
2. You authorize the platform (Twitter, Instagram, etc.) via standard OAuth
3. LATE handles tokens, rate limits, and API complexity
4. ILLIXIS posts to your accounts using the LATE API

You never see LATE directly. The entire flow happens through ILLIXIS settings.

Platform Limits by Tier

Connected platforms per website:

• Starter: 4 platforms
• Professional: 8 platforms
• Enterprise: All 13 platforms

Multiple accounts per platform: Unlimited. Connect 5 Instagram accounts on the Starter tier, and it counts as 1 platform.

Posts: Unlimited across all tiers. No monthly post limits.

Setup Steps

1. Open Integrations Page

Go to Settings > Integrations.

Click the Social Platforms tab.

You'll see a grid of social platform cards (Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.).

2. Connect Your First Platform

Click Connect on the platform you want to add (e.g., Twitter).

ILLIXIS redirects you to the platform's authorization page.

What happens:

• ILLIXIS requests a LATE profile for your account
• LATE generates an OAuth URL for the selected platform
• You're redirected to the platform (Twitter, Instagram, etc.)

3. Authorize the Platform

Sign into the platform if not already signed in.

Approve ILLIXIS access to publish posts on your behalf.

Permissions requested:

• Twitter: Create posts, upload media
• LinkedIn: Post to profile/pages
• Instagram: Publish posts (requires Facebook Business account)
• Facebook: Publish to pages/groups
• TikTok: Upload videos, publish posts

All permissions are write-only (publishing). ILLIXIS does not read DMs, followers, or private data.

4. Return to ILLIXIS

After approval, the platform redirects back to ILLIXIS.

ILLIXIS syncs connected accounts from LATE and stores them locally.

You'll see a success message: "Social account connected successfully! 1 account(s) linked."

The platform card now shows Connected with account details (username, avatar).

Connecting Multiple Accounts

Same Platform, Different Accounts

Connect multiple accounts on the same platform (e.g., personal Twitter + business Twitter):

1. Click Connect again on the same platform card
2. Authorize the second account
3. Both accounts appear under the platform card

When scheduling posts, you'll choose which account to publish to.

Use case: You manage a brand Instagram and a personal Instagram. Connect both, then select which account gets each post in the Social Hub.

Multi-Website Tenants

If you have multiple websites on your plan:

• Each website gets its own platform quota (4/8/13 platforms per website)
• Connect different platforms to different websites
• Example: Website A connects Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn (4 platforms on Starter). Website B connects TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Reddit (4 platforms on Starter).

Disconnecting Accounts

Remove a Specific Account

Go to Settings > Integrations > Social Platforms.

Find the platform card with the account you want to remove.

Click Disconnect next to the account name.

Confirm the action.

What happens:

• Account removed from LATE profile
• Scheduled posts to that account will fail
• Historical published posts remain visible in Social Hub (read-only)

Before disconnecting:

• Cancel queued posts to that account in Social Hub > Queue tab
• Or reassign posts to a different connected account

Disconnect All Platforms

To disconnect all social accounts at once:

1. Go to Settings > Integrations > Social Platforms
2. Click Disconnect on each platform card
3. Confirm each disconnection

This removes all LATE connections. Your LATE profile remains (reused if you reconnect later).

Refreshing Connections

Manual Refresh

If accounts don't appear after connecting:

1. Go to Settings > Integrations > Social Platforms
2. Click Refresh on the platform card
3. ILLIXIS fetches the latest account list from LATE

When to use:

• After connecting a new account
• If account list looks outdated
• If publishing fails with "account not found"

Automatic Token Refresh

LATE handles OAuth token refresh automatically. You don't need to reauthorize periodically.

Exception: If you revoke ILLIXIS access on the platform (Twitter Settings > Apps > Revoke), you must reconnect manually.

Using Connected Accounts

Once connected, accounts appear in:

Social Hub

Path: Content Hub > Social Hub

When scheduling posts:

1. Generate captions for an article
2. Click Schedule Post
3. Check boxes for platforms (Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn)
4. If multiple accounts per platform, select which account to publish to
5. Set schedule time and publish

Social Studio

Path: Distribute > Creative Studio > Social Studio

When creating standalone social content:

1. Generate quote graphics, carousels, or video scripts
2. Click Publish
3. Select platforms and accounts
4. Schedule or publish immediately

Distribution Planner

Path: Content Hub > Distribution Planner

When distributing content across channels:

1. Generate a distribution plan for a topic
2. Plan includes social platforms
3. Click Publish to schedule posts to connected accounts

Platform-Specific Notes

Instagram

Requirements:

• Instagram Business or Creator account
• Connected to a Facebook Page
• If you have a personal Instagram, convert to Business in Instagram app settings

Limitations:

• Stories not supported (LATE API limitation)
• Reels require video upload (coming soon)

Facebook

Permissions:

• Posts to Pages you manage (not personal profiles)
• Select which Page during authorization

Multiple Pages:

• Connect each Page separately
• Schedule posts to specific Pages when publishing

Twitter/X

API changes:

• Twitter Blue/Premium required for API access (Twitter policy, not LATE limitation)
• Free accounts may not authorize successfully

LinkedIn

Profile vs Page:

• Personal profile posts appear as you
• Company Page posts appear as the brand
• Select during authorization

TikTok

Video-only:

• TikTok requires video content
• Text-only posts not supported
• Use Video Production Dashboard to generate TikTok videos

YouTube

Community posts only:

• Publishes to YouTube Community tab (text/image posts)
• Does not upload videos to main channel
• For video uploads, use manual YouTube Studio upload

Troubleshooting

"No accounts found" after connecting

Cause: OAuth completed but accounts didn't sync.

Fix:

1. Go to Settings > Integrations > Social Platforms
2. Click Refresh on the platform card
3. Check if accounts appear
4. If not, disconnect and reconnect

"Platform limit reached" when connecting

Cause: You've connected the maximum number of platforms for your tier.

Fix:

• Option 1: Disconnect an unused platform to free up a slot
• Option 2: Upgrade to Professional (8 platforms) or Enterprise (13 platforms)

Note: Multiple accounts on the same platform count as 1 platform. If you have 3 Instagram accounts, that's 1 platform.

"Account not found" when scheduling post

Cause: Account was disconnected or OAuth token expired.

Fix:

1. Go to Settings > Integrations > Social Platforms
2. Check if platform shows "Connected"
3. If not, reconnect the platform
4. If yes, click Refresh to sync accounts

Publishing fails with "Authorization error"

Cause: Platform revoked access or token expired.

Fix:

1. Disconnect the platform
2. Reconnect and reauthorize
3. Check platform's app permissions page (Twitter > Settings > Apps, Facebook > Settings > Business Integrations)
4. Ensure ILLIXIS is listed and active

"LATE quota limit reached"

Cause: ILLIXIS hit the LATE API quota (rare, affects all tenants).

Fix:

• Contact ILLIXIS support
• LATE quotas are platform-level (not per-tenant)
• Support will upgrade the LATE plan if necessary

User action: Wait for support team to resolve. Do not disconnect/reconnect (won't fix the issue).

Privacy & Permissions

What ILLIXIS can do:

• Publish posts to your connected accounts
• Upload media (images, videos)
• Schedule posts for future publishing
• Fetch engagement metrics (likes, comments, shares)

What ILLIXIS cannot do:

• Read your DMs or messages
• Follow/unfollow accounts
• Access private follower lists
• Change account settings
• Delete posts (you must delete on platform)

Data storage:

• LATE profile ID stored in ILLIXIS database
• Account IDs and usernames stored locally
• OAuth tokens stored by LATE (not ILLIXIS)
• Scheduled posts stored until published, then moved to Published history

Revoking access:

• Disconnect in ILLIXIS Settings > Integrations
• Revoke app access on platform (Twitter Settings > Apps, Facebook Settings > Business Integrations)
• Deleting your ILLIXIS account does NOT automatically revoke platform access (manual revoke required)

Starter (4 platforms):

• Total: 4 platforms, 7 accounts

Professional (8 platforms):

• All Starter platforms + TikTok, YouTube, Threads, Bluesky
• Total: 8 platforms, unlimited accounts
