What is the Media Library?

The Media Library is your central repository for all visual assets created or uploaded in ILLIXIS. Instead of hunting through individual articles or campaigns to find images, the Media Library surfaces everything in one browsable, filterable interface.

What's stored:

  • Featured images from articles and briefs
  • AI-generated images from AI image generation and inline image generation
  • Charts and infographics created during content generation
  • Carousel slides and social graphics
  • Banner ads and promotional visuals
  • Uploaded images from Unsplash or manual uploads

Key benefits:

  • Reuse assets across multiple content pieces
  • Find that perfect image you generated weeks ago
  • Maintain visual consistency across campaigns
  • Track storage usage against plan limits

Accessing the Media Library

  1. Navigate to Content Hub in the left sidebar
  2. Click the Images tab at the top of the dashboard

Alternative access:

  • Direct URL: /content-hub/?tab=images
  • From any article: Click the image icon in the toolbar to browse your library

The Media Library view shows all images as a grid, with filtering and sorting options.

Browsing Your Assets

Grid View

Images display as thumbnails in a responsive grid. Each thumbnail shows:

| Element | Description |
|---------|-------------|
| Thumbnail | Preview of the image (click to view full size) |
| Content title | The article or brief this image belongs to |
| Type badge | Featured, Inline, Chart, Carousel, or Banner |
| Date | When the image was generated |

Filtering Options

Use the filter bar to narrow results:

By Type:

  • All Images (default)
  • Featured Images
  • Inline Images
  • Charts & Infographics
  • Carousel Slides
  • Banner Ads

By Source:

  • AI-Generated
  • Unsplash
  • Manual Upload

By Date:

  • All time
  • Last 7 days
  • Last 30 days
  • Last 90 days

By Associated Content:

  • Search by article title or brief name

Sorting

Sort images by:

  • Newest first (default)
  • Oldest first
  • By content title (A-Z)

Viewing Full-Size Images

Click any thumbnail to view the full-resolution image. The viewer provides:

  • Full-size preview with zoom controls
  • Download button to save to your computer
  • Copy URL to get the signed URL for embedding
  • Go to content link to view the associated article

Signed URLs:

All images in ILLIXIS use signed URLs for security. These URLs expire after 1 hour but regenerate automatically when you view the image. If you copy a URL for external use, it will only work for 1 hour.

For permanent URLs, download the image and upload to your CMS or CDN.

Organizing by Content

Images are automatically organized by their source content:

Grouping

The Media Library can display images grouped by:

  • Content piece (all images for one article together)
  • Campaign (all images used in a specific campaign)
  • Date (all images from a specific week/month)

Toggle grouping using the "Group by" dropdown.

Linking to Content

Every image maintains a link to its source content. From the image detail view:

  1. Click Go to Content
  2. You'll be taken to the article or brief detail page
  3. The image will be highlighted in context

Reusing Assets

Insert into New Content

When creating or editing an article:

  1. Position your cursor where you want the image
  2. Click the Insert Image button in the toolbar
  3. Select From Library tab
  4. Browse or search your Media Library
  5. Click the image to insert it

The image is copied (not linked), so editing the original won't affect the new content.

Download for External Use

To use images outside ILLIXIS:

  1. Click the image thumbnail
  2. Click Download in the viewer
  3. Image downloads in original resolution (PNG or JPEG)

File formats:

  • Featured images: JPEG (optimized for web)
  • Charts/infographics: PNG (preserves transparency)
  • Carousel slides: PNG (high quality for social platforms)

Batch Download

Select multiple images for batch operations:

  1. Enable selection mode (checkbox icon)
  2. Click images to select (or use "Select All")
  3. Click Download Selected
  4. A ZIP file downloads containing all selected images

Storage Limits

ILLIXIS tracks media storage per tenant:

| Plan | Storage Limit | Typical Usage |
|------|---------------|---------------|
| Starter | 5 GB | ~2,500 featured images |
| Professional | 25 GB | ~12,500 images |
| Scale | 100 GB | ~50,000 images |

Check your usage:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Account > Usage
  2. View "Media Storage" metric
  3. Progress bar shows percentage used

What counts toward storage:

  • All AI-generated images
  • Uploaded images
  • Charts and infographics
  • Carousel slides
  • Video thumbnails

What doesn't count:

  • Video files (separate video storage quota)
  • Temporary processing files (auto-deleted)

Deleting Images

Delete Single Image

  1. Hover over the image thumbnail
  2. Click the trash icon
  3. Confirm deletion

Warning: If the image is used in published content, it will show as broken after deletion. ILLIXIS warns you if the image is currently in use.

Bulk Delete

  1. Enable selection mode
  2. Select images to delete
  3. Click Delete Selected
  4. Confirm the bulk operation

Orphaned Images

Orphaned images are media files not attached to any content. They occur when:

  • You delete an article but keep its images
  • Image generation completes but you cancel the brief
  • You remove an inline image from an article

Finding orphaned images: Filter by "Orphaned" to view unattached images. Consider deleting these to free storage.

Common Workflows

Workflow 1: Find an Image for Reuse

Goal: Use a previously generated image in new content.

  1. Navigate to Media Library
  2. Filter by type (e.g., "Featured Images")
  3. Search by keyword related to the original content
  4. Preview candidates to find the right one
  5. From your new article, click Insert Image > From Library
  6. Select the image

Workflow 2: Audit Visual Consistency

Goal: Ensure your images maintain brand consistency.

  1. Navigate to Media Library
  2. Set grouping to "By Content"
  3. Review images across multiple articles
  4. Note any outliers (wrong colors, different style)
  5. Regenerate inconsistent images or update Brand Voice settings

Workflow 3: Free Up Storage

Goal: Delete unused images to stay under storage limits.

  1. Navigate to Media Library
  2. Filter by "Orphaned"
  3. Review images not attached to content
  4. Select images safe to delete
  5. Bulk delete to free space

Troubleshooting

Images not appearing:

  • Refresh the page (images may still be processing)
  • Check filters (you may have an active filter hiding results)
  • Verify the content generation completed successfully

Image shows as broken:

  • The signed URL may have expired (refresh the page)
  • The source file may have been deleted
  • Check if the content the image belonged to was deleted

Cannot delete image:

  • Image may be in use by published content
  • You may not have delete permissions (check with your admin)

Storage shows higher than expected:

  • Large infographics and charts consume more space
  • Carousel sets include multiple slides
  • Consider deleting unused or orphaned images
