ILLIXIS can show a cookie banner on your website. It asks visitors whether they accept analytics and advertising cookies, remembers their answer, and only loads your tracking once they allow it. It is included on every plan.

It also matters for your results: ILLIXIS attribution only runs on your site when there is a consent signal. Without a cookie banner, or Shopify's own one, ILLIXIS cannot measure which marketing brought your visitors and sales.

The banner asks visitors and records their answers. It does not decide which privacy laws apply to your business.

Turn It On

  1. Go to Integrations → Tracking and find ILLIXIS cookie banner.
  2. Switch on Show the cookie banner.
  3. Optionally, write your own banner message and add your privacy policy link, then click Save.

If CookieYes is connected, it handles consent and this banner stays off. Disconnect CookieYes to use the ILLIXIS banner instead.

Where It Shows

  • WordPress: sites connected with the ILLIXIS plugin (version 1.29 or later) get the banner automatically. Update the plugin under Plugins in your WordPress admin, then open the ILLIXIS settings page once.
  • Shopify: use Shopify's own cookie banner (Settings → Customer privacy). ILLIXIS reads the choices visitors make there.
  • Any other site (Webflow, Next.js and others): copy the one line shown on the card and add it to every page, before any other script. If you use Google Tag Manager, this line loads your container too, so remove your existing Tag Manager snippet.
  • Pages ILLIXIS hosts for you, such as landing pages, show it automatically.

Opt-In or Opt-Out

  • Opt-out (the usual US setup): tracking runs by default, and visitors can opt out, including of the sale or sharing of their information for advertising. Browsers that send Global Privacy Control are opted out of advertising automatically.
  • Opt-in: visitors choose before any analytics or advertising cookie is set.

Your site uses opt-in when GDPR mode is on in Brand settings (Compliance tab), and opt-out otherwise. Visitors from the EU, the rest of the EEA, the UK and Switzerland always get opt-in.

What Happens After a Choice

  • Google Tag Manager, and every tag inside it, loads only when advertising is allowed.
  • If a visitor opts out, the cookies those tags had already set on your site are removed.
  • Each choice is saved with its date, so you can show what a visitor chose. No IP address is stored. Records are kept for 24 months.
  • The card shows how many choices were made in the last 30 days, and how many accepted or rejected everything.

Letting Visitors Change Their Mind

Visitors reopen their choices from a small cookie icon in the bottom-right corner. To use a link instead, such as "Your Privacy Choices" in your footer, add data-cc="show-preferencesModal" to that link and the icon stops showing.

Tips

  • Turn it on before you start paid campaigns, so attribution has data from day one.
  • Mention the banner and the "Your Privacy Choices" link in your privacy policy.
