What It Does

ILLIXIS lets you select any text within an article, click Ask Maya, and either pick a quick action (Reword, Shorten, Expand, Simplify, Fix Grammar, Brand Voice) or type your own instructions. Maya replies inline as an annotation thread — you can read the suggestion, refine it with a follow-up message, and apply it to your draft when you're happy.

Inline editing lives inside the annotation layer, the same surface used for comments and Maya reviews. There's no separate modal — selections, suggestions, and replies all stack alongside your article.

How to Use It

Step 1: Open the Article

Open any article in the Content Hub. Inline AI editing works in both view mode (read-only) and edit mode (Quill rich text editor).

Step 2: Select Text

Highlight a word, phrase, sentence, or paragraph. A small action menu appears with Ask Maya as one of the options.

Step 3: Click Ask Maya

A draft annotation thread opens next to your selection with quick-action pills.

Step 4: Pick a Quick Action — or Type Your Own

Click any pill to dispatch the action immediately. Or type a custom request in the textarea (e.g., "Make this more confident") and send.

Step 5: Read Maya's Reply, Refine, Apply

  • Maya's response appears as a reply in the thread.
  • Reply with another message to refine the suggestion (e.g., "Try a shorter version").
  • When you're happy, copy the text into your draft. In edit mode, you can paste over the original selection.

Quick Actions

| Pill | What It Does |
|------|-------------|
| Reword | Rephrase the passage while keeping the same meaning |
| Shorten | Make the passage more concise without losing key points |
| Expand | Add more detail, examples, or depth |
| Simplify | Use simpler words and shorter sentences |
| Fix Grammar | Correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar — no rewording |
| Brand Voice | Rewrite to match your configured brand tone and style |

For anything outside these six, type a custom instruction in the thread textarea.

Brand Voice

The Brand Voice pill uses the brand tone you configure in Brand Settings. The more detail you put there (sample sentences, words to use, words to avoid), the closer Maya's rewrite will land.

If Brand Voice rewrites feel generic, go to Brand Settings and add more detail to the brand tone field.

Tips for Best Results

  • Keep selections focused. Highlight just the text that needs changing — Maya picks up surrounding context automatically.
  • Iterate in the thread. If the first suggestion isn't right, reply ("shorter", "more direct", "less marketing-y") instead of starting over.
  • Brand Voice first. If you have brand tone configured, run Brand Voice before stylistic changes — it sets a consistent baseline.
  • Fix Grammar last. Run grammar fixes after major rewrites so you're not polishing text you'll change again.
  • Long passages: split. Selections over ~2,500 characters get truncated context. For long sections, edit in passes.

Troubleshooting

Ask Maya button doesn't appear

You need to highlight text first. Select a word or phrase, and the action menu (with Ask Maya) appears next to your selection.

Reply seems to miss the point

Reply in the thread with a more specific instruction. Maya keeps the conversation context, so follow-ups refine the previous answer rather than starting over.

Brand Voice rewrites feel generic

Brand tone needs detail. Open Brand Settings and add 2-3 sentences describing your voice, plus words/phrases to use and avoid.
